AABH PROVIDES ACCESS TO A NUMBER OF PROFESSIONAL TOOLS FOR SUCCESS.

THE AABH PATIENT PERCEPTION OF CARE SURVEY: PUTTING OUR PATIENTS FIRST

BENCHMARKING REPORTS

Reports are generated four times per year, and provide average ratings for each item, with percentage breakouts of each response choice (e.g. excellent).Your program’s average item scores are benchmarked against national norms.

NOW AVAILABLE!

We are pleased to offer the only AABH-sanctioned patient satisfaction survey designed specifically for AABH members and their Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs, including national PHP/IOP norms. This new solution, offered through a collaboration with the Spectrum of Statistics (SOS), is a very affordable patient satisfaction measurement system.

OVERVIEW

There is no modality quite as unique as that of PHPs or IOPs, and many instruments utilized today include measurement tools which are too broad or perhaps too outdated for the PHP/IOP modality.

The AABH Patient Perception of Care Survey measures the patient's impression of relevant and personal experiences in the areas of performance-- such as ease of admission, confidence in staff and treatment teams, and the comfort of the treatment environment.

The survey also addresses key dimensions of recovery. Notable examples include topics measuring the patient's feeling of hopefulness, or the importance of group interventions. Most available instruments do not encompass this increasingly important and sensitive domain.

SUBSCRIPTION FEES AND ELIGIBILITY

Eligible programs include any type of Partial Hospitalization or Intensive Outpatient Program. You may include a multitude of programs within your organization.

  • The annual 12-month subscription fee is $375 for AABH members and $475 for non-members.

  • The subscription covers up to three programs. Additional programs within your organization are billed at $100 each.

  • The subscription includes four Survey Reports for January through March, April through June, July through September and October through December.

SURVEY DETAILS

The one-page AABH Patient Perception of Care Survey contains twelve common items for all participants and three blank spaces for add-on questions-- which can be individually tailored to the needs of each participating facility.

The survey can be completed by most patients in 5 minutes or less, and is structured for adult or adolescent populations.

A 5-point response scale (excellent, very good, good, fair, and poor) is employed, and measures the following dimensions:

  • Comfort of the Facility

  • Ease of the Admission Process

  • Helpfulness of the Staff

  • Value of Group Interventions

  • Active Role in the Treatment Process

  • Perceived Impact on Life Activities

  • Perceived Impact on Hopefulness

  • Feelings of Safety Outside the Program

  • Effectiveness of the Prescribing Professional

  • Program Impact on Recovery

  • Preparedness for Discharge

  • Overall Satisfaction

  • Specific questions relating to your particular program or facility

SURVEY REPORTS

The benchmarking surveys allow AABH to produce three reports:

  1. Highlight Report – Key findings; presented each year at the AABH Annual Training Conference. The report is then published on the website for all to view.

  2. Full Report– Critical answers to all survey questions, providing

a thorough overview of program performance; available to all members of AABH. The report is emailed to every program that participated in the survey.

  3. Program Report Cards – Each program submitting data will receive a report card. The report will exhibit compares to others programs that participated in the survey and then compared to a peer group (PHP, IOP, or Combined Program).

THE AABH ANNUAL BENCHMARKING SURVEY: MEASURING PERFORMANCE GOALS

SURVEY DETAILS

The Annual Benchmarking Survey consists of multiple questions in six core areas: Programming, Admission & Referrals, Diagnoses, Staffing, Revenue and Outcomes.

DATA SUBMISSION

A complete packet of survey questions  are

emailed to all members 60 days prior to the

deadline for data collection, giving ample time

to collect information necessary for the online

survey—open for 30 days (usually the full

month of May). Data collection tools are also sent via email to members each year, for those who prefer to collect their data monthly. Many find this to be a more effiicent way to compile the annual data needed for submission.

FEES AND ELIGIBILITY

All AABH members are eligible to participate

in the Annual Benchmarking Survey at no additional cost— this survey is a member benefit. The highlight report is free to all participants and is posted annually here on the website. Those members at the Program and System level of membership receive the full report and program report cards at no cost upon participation of the survey. Non-members can request a copy of the full report for $395 per report.

OVERVIEW AND BENEFITS

Many professionals in the behavioral health industry are concerned about their performance as it compares to others providing similar programs. With the help of the annual AABH benchmarking survey, you can share your program details and see similarities and/or differences in a detailed report. Survey data is broken into three categories when possible: PHPs, IOPs and Combined Programs. The reports are descriptive in nature, and no interpretation of the data is included. This unique survey captures critical information to help you during reviews by payers and regulatory agencies.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?

This benchmarking survey is a peer-based data comparison.

As more peers participate, comparisons prove

to be much more accurate, valid and credible.

Program specific data is not shared in

reporting, so your data is known only to you

when compared to all programs that participate.
